The three videos you should watch if you don’t think you’re ready for retirement
I’ve had loads of conversations with clients, friends, and professional connections over the years who tell me they’re not ready to retire.
I get it. The conversational view of retirement involving a life of just fun, rest and relaxation doesn’t feel enough for many of the people I speak to as a life well lived.
But what if I told you that all we need to do is reframe retirement in a way that suits us. If we choose to intentionally design our lives in a way that doesn’t concern itself with the conventional norms, but instead look at a next chapter which actually feels compelling, we might feel differently about the word ‘retirement’ and be able to make changes in our lives which make us healthier, happier and more satisified.
So, in this blog, I share ideas you’ll benefit from watching when you don’t think you’re ready for retirement but maybe (just maybe) you think that you could do with making some positive changes ready for the next chapter of your lives.
Change is hard. It’s why many of us defer retirement when we could potentially make positive change in our lives.
However, I do believe that if we’re navigating change (and moving into the next chapter of our lives is a huge change!) it’s useful to have some perspective and tools as a bit of a map.
So, in this first video I want to share, I talk about some change related topics for you to navigate “What Happens Next” including The Change Curve model, why we should try to avoid the retirement cliff, why there’s likely to be a bit negative emotion in any change and the 4 practical things you can do to make the curve of change a tiny bit smaller.
In this next video, I want to talk about one of the most useful tools you can use to design a “next chapter” life which works for you. Experimentation. Specifically low cost, rapid experimentation. So, let’s explore why experimentation is better than having a perfect plan, how to test out things in a low-risk way and we share loads of practical examples on the experiments you might want to try…
The last video I’d suggest that people who don’t want to retire but are considering making positive change is highlighting 5 specific techniques to reframe retirement in a different way including self-reflection, finding an accountability partner and joining communities of likeminded people.
So, I hope these three videos are useful but there’s bucketloads more on the What Happens Next youtube channel I want to share…
In this video, I share a practical blueprint to help you specifically design your life.
And
In this video, I share why we should ignore conventional retirement models and build a next chapter which is going to actually work for us…
