Why trying (and often failing) to be a good dad makes me a better business owner.
The one “Job” in my life which gives me the most inspiration, is also the most challenging but is also without a shadow of a doubt the most fun…
…Is the ‘Job’ of being a Dad.
It’s a ‘job’ which comes with a great deal of responsibility but one with enormous satisfaction.
It’s a ‘job’ where you try your best, but to be perfectly frank, whilst you may be always trying to do a great job, and you hopefully get a number of indications along the road, you never really know how your parenting will impact your children longer term success.
and
It’s a ‘job’ which, for me, has changed my perspective on most things in my life.
You see I believe being a dad is about being a role model.
I believe if you’re asking your kids to try hard, continue learning and improving, be resilient, don’t be afraid to make decisions, take chances, do well (and do good), be fair, be truthful and be a forward thinking optimistic person, have fun…the least you can do is trying to inhabit those qualities too!
The reality is that it’s not that easy. We all make mistakes. We all get frustrated, angry and annoyed needlessly. We all on occasion take things too personally. We all have days where we don’t try as hard as we should, or are needlessly negative in our view of the world. We all have times when we fall into bad habits.
However, being a dad means that when I get home and I’m giving the kids a cuddle it feels like a continuous reminder of my obligation that I need to continue to try to do the best job I can.
I also believe that the example we try to set for the kids is also how we try to work with both our clients and the other members of ‘Team Cervello’.
You see when many of our clients choose to work with us, or people choose to join our team they make the choice based on one thing…
Trust.
Our job is to continue to show we’ve earned that trust for our clients or any individual who chooses to work with us be it as members of our team, professional introducers, trusted partners or friends.
Hopefully the fact that it’s really important for us to inhabit the values we try to teach Charlotte and Sophie mean that we’ll continue to do a great job for our clients and the people who choose to join our business.
