Moaning, Linkedin and Time Well Spent

I use Linkedin to maintain professional connections but don’t tend to check it as often as either Twitter or Facebook.  I tend to pop in and out of the site, however I’m conscious it’s a platform I need to understand more.

However one really useful area on Linkedin is the ability to start professional conversations about a range of subjects and engage with other people to discuss.  However, there’s something I don’t understand about the behaviour of certain individuals who use either Linkedin or other online forums and platforms to just do one thing…moan!

Let me give you an example….I read a forum post this morning which was ‘moaning’ about how ineffective social media was as a marketing tool.  The posts in question were well worded, articulate and the individual obviously took some time to write their post.  However, it wasn’t constructive criticism or debate (which I value), it was a blatant moan!

However, and I’m sure you’ve spotted the irony here….he’d spent significant time and energy on writing a number of entries which moaned about “social media”….whilst spending time on one of the biggest social media platforms of the market!  I’m wondering what results he would have got if he would have spend that time being positive and constructive as opposed to moaning….what do you think?

I know that I believe his time would better being spent building positive relationships, Showing his expertise and providing constructive feedback.  However, I think I should stop this blog entry here before I start to Moan!  As ever, I’m interested in your thoughts and feedback…

Great post. I guess interacting via social media does mean including the odd moan or rant!

I’m not adverse to a little moan or rant myself Tony! – In actual fact I had one today on Twitter.  However I think sometimes too much time can be spent in that negative train of mind and it’s got to impact that individuals daily productivity!
