Interesting people, renaissance painters and the power of the idea
I want to start this Blog entry with a question for you -“What makes a person interesting?”. You may have a long list of factors which make another person ‘interesting’. I have. However one thing which always makes me genuine interested in someone more than usual is a person who (either consciously or unconsciously) understands the power of ideas.
I was recently introduced to a new client who I found particularly engaging. If you passed this particular individual in the street or even stopped him in the street and asked him for the time you may not have seen what I saw.
When we met he was casually dressed, unassuming and quietly spoken. However he spoke with confidence and focus and most importantly spoke in the language of ideas.
We spoke about what was potentially possible. We spoke about his future dreams and aspirations. We spoke about his ‘idea’ of the life he wanted to build for himself. I was truly fascinated during our conversation and got genuinely excited about helping him to achieve the ‘idea’ of his ideal life.
Ideas are incredibly powerful. All individuals who achieve something, from the early philosophers through to the great painters of the renaissance to the latest tranche of entrepreneurial business owners started with one thing….that one ‘light bulb’ moment.
You can use the power of ideas to help you financially plan for the life you are looking for. Try asking yourself these questions:-
* What’s your ‘idea’ of an ideal life?
* What’s your ‘idea’ of a perfect day?
* What’s your ‘idea’ of the most pleasant mix within your life between work, social and fun?
However ideas are bought to life by one thing. Action. These actions may start by writing your ideas down or talking with family and friends about your ideas. It may continue by you taking small action to move yourself closer to starting to bring your ideas to life. It may end (after a lot of hard work and effort if it’s anything like most ideas) when your idea emerges into life fully developed.
Again these concept of ideas brought to life gradually, taking small steps daily. The most iconic pieces of art and the greatest modern businesses we’re never built overnight. They started with a great idea and continued to develop with taking small actions to achieve a goal.
So I like people who speak about the language of ideas. However more importantly I like people who take action to bring these ideas to life. Think about the people you know. When considering the individuals you admire and respect think about why.
For me it’s usually because they are taking the bull by the horns and taking the simplest thing (an idea) and turning it into something tangible. I don’t think I’m ever going to stop being impressed by the innate human ability to do this.
I just wish that more people would harness the power of ideas (and then take action) to provide focus within their lives. So, how about you? Do you understand the power of ideas? and what action do you take to ensure these ideas develop from an electrical charge whizzing around your brain to something real?
As ever I look forward to hearing from you….
