Baby steps, Big goals and the magic of 200,000 words.

I love to write.

At one of the couple of my homes on the web (this site and my personal site www.chrisdaems.com) I spend a decent amount of time each week exploring ideas which interest me as well as sharing knowledge and expertise.

Writing for me is an interesting process. It started off as a particular tough job. Writing 500+ words a couple of times a week (the target I’d set myself) seemed like a big task before I did it.

However slowly but surely, word by word, entry by entry, month by month and now year by year we’ve built a decent library of writing about a wide range of subjects.

Today I looked at how many articles I’d published on my sites (it’s important to mention that we do a large amount of writing on our external sites, many of which you can find on our press page but I’ve not included this in the number below).

As I write this today (The 6th of August 2014) I’ve written 333 articles on my own sites. Assuming an average of 600 words that’s just shy of 200,000 words.

Erm, that’s quite a lot innit?!

Apparently (and this is only based on a quick Google search) is how many glasses of milk a cow can provide in it’s lifetime,

It’s the number of years (yes, years!) people of the world have played Angry birds…

and

It’s also enough words for 3 – 4 decent sized books..

It doesn’t seem like that now. However slowly but surely, bit by bit, article by article and word by word I’ve seemed to accumulate hundreds of thousands of words!

Strangely a lot of it also seems to make sense!

It’s interesting. At no stage of writing the 200,000 words did I feel that I’d written loads. I didn’t even know I’d written that much!

The reason for this is that I was consistently focused on writing the next 500 – 1000 words week in and week out.

Therefore whilst the big picture (my big picture with my writing was and still is, enough content to write a book) you never get to the big picture without breaking the large ambitious goal into small bite size chunks and focusing on completing those tasks.

Also some weeks were better than others. Some weeks I wrote 1500 words. On others I managed to write 4000 words. On others I managed none.

Our financial lives are usually the same.

Many of the clients I’ve worked with have already accumulated high levels of wealth.

One of the things I like to understand is how they achieved a decent level of financial security the answer is usually very simple…

One step at a time.

Whilst the techniques might have been different, some of my clients have saved regularly to accumulate wealth wheras others have built and grown businesses, the principal remains.

To build anything you take each tiny small incremental step at a time.

Slowly building.

Constantly  reviewing.

Always trying to keep the plan on track.

Having one eye on the longer term goal but focusing on ensuring that the jobs are done day to day, week to week and month to month in order to get to the longer term goal is usually key,

So, like my 200,000 words, your goals
in life or achieving the money you need to live the life you want I firmly believe it only happens one way.

Taking one tiny little step in the right direction at a time.
