Why we need to stop being ‘busy’ and start planning for future success…
“Thanks for following up with my client” my client said “…I know I said we’d start working together soon and I promised I’d supply you with the information you need to start the process a couple of months ago…but I’ve just been ‘too busy'”
“I understand” I chuckled “I know how you feel…however if you can get the paperwork over to me by Friday that’ll be great and we can start to move forward.”
It’s interesting…
Whilst we all live increasingly ‘busy’ lives I wonder whether many of us are ‘busy’ doing stuff that really matters.
It’s easy, especially when there are so many demands on our time and attention, to spend our lives being massively busy.
In my experience this especially applies to those of us who live professionally demanding lives and often means that the plans we need to make for our futures, both financially and in relation to how we spend out time, gets put to one side and often not revisited for months and sometimes years.
The interesting thing about most people I meet is that they tend to understand how important it is to have plans for their financial futures. They see it as a priority but the paradox is that often they don’t spend the time focusing on getting it done.
Most of us (and I’m including you in this – correct me if I’m wrong!) also need a financial plan sooner rather than later as having more time to achieve our goals financially or otherwise is the smart thing to do.
The interesting thing is how the story I started at the top of this blog entry continues…
When the gentleman in question sent all his documents back and we’d spoken to him about how he’ll achieve his financial goals together with putting a clear and robust plan in place as well as clear actions to achieve his goals he made an interesting statement…
“You know what Chris. I wished I’d done this a couple of years ago. Not only do I feel better now but with a clear financial plan I’m taking practical steps towards a lifestyle I’ve been hankering after for ages.”
“I can’t believe” He said I was ‘too busy’ to get to this stage…”
“I’m glad we could help…” I said “…and I’m glad we got there in the end!”
“So am I” said the man
If we’re honest with ourselves we’re all guilty at one point or another (and some of us more than others) of being ‘busy’ without being particularly productive…I know I have!
However when it comes to putting in place a clear financial plan and spending some time identifying clear actions you can take to ensure you achieve your goals financial or otherwise…it’s important you do this sooner rather than later.
If you need any help feel free to let us know…we’d be happy to try to help.
