I recently wrote about the values which drive me as an individual. I mentioned that I don’t ‘jump out of bed’ as the thought of making money but instead jumping out of bed wanting to be a good role model for my two daughters.

You see the most important job in my world is the job of Parent.

A “job” which comes with no instruction manual, where you get plenty of advice but very little guidance and where you continuously make mistakes.

The most emotional “job” you’ll ever do. One which where (in my experience anyway) at times you’ll feel amazing Joy but at other times being a parent will make you feel hugely sad. Let’s not forget that parenting also involves feeling pride, embarrassment, fear and frustration at various stages of being a mum or dad.

A “job” where you try your best, often muddling along hoping you’re doing a decent job and trying your best

However it’s something I wouldn’t change it for a millisecond. I love it…

Also the principals which drive me as a parent also drive me in our business. You see in our family (and in our business) we’re driven by three clear principals…

Firstly as a Family (and as a business) we’re always trying to improve.

Both personally and professionally this means that we continue to make things better, continuing to learn and hopefully continuing to grow as individuals.

Secondly as a Family (and as a business) we always try to enjoy ourselves as much as possible.

There’s a bunch of evidence that positive, optimistic can-do forward looking people get better results. For us this means that we cultivate a ‘culture of fun’ this both at home, with the team at Cervello and with our clients. This doesn’t mean we don’t take our work seriously (we absolutely do!) it just means we want to enjoy the time we spend with our colleagues and clients.

Thirdly as a Family (and as a business) we believe that fairness is fundamentally important.

You see I want my girls to understand it might be important to do well…but it’s equally important to do good. This means fairness underpins everything we do both at home and at work.

It’s interesting.

As we grow as a business we find that people who are attracted to us regardless of whether they are clients or people looking to join our business share many of our values…and when it comes to joining our business these are the sort of people we’re looking for!

You see as we continue to grow we want people to join our team with a diverse range of skills knowledge…but with the same values. Fairness. Continuous Improvement and Development. Fun.
