Why how you want to be remembered is important to your financial plan
On top of helping our clients help achieve their financial goals, running a business and everything that goes with this I also (as a hobby) host a podcast with my daughter and the concept of the podcast is a simple one…
It’s a podcast designed to share the stories of people doing positive things for others with their lives.
The podcast is called ‘the kindness project’ and during recording it combines a few of my favourite things…
Spending time with my daughter, talking about optimism and positivity , chatting to interesting people and hopefully sharing some thoughts and ideas which enhance our listeners life…
…and it doesn’t earn me a penny!
You see for me life is about so much more than money but lets also not pretend Money isn’t important.
and
Certainly achieving financial independence is a pretty decent goal to have.
However let’s also not pretend that Money is the only contributor to making us happy. Not many of us want to be the richest corpse in the graveyard and most of us want to in our later years look back at our lives with very few regrets! There’s a pretty powerful question I’ve been asking of our clients recently, one that helps both the client and I think about what’s really important…
What do you want to be remembered for?
The responses you typically get are interesting and range from ‘being an amazing dad and husband’ or ‘being kind’ or ‘for being happy’ or even ‘being a good business person’…Very rarely is the answer…
‘I want to be remembered for being wealthy’
A lot of the time being a financial planner also allows you not only to ask these questions to help link peoples money to their lives…but also think about them yourself….and for me I’d like to be remembered in a number of ways.
For being a good person
For being a great dad
and
For helping people link their financial goals to their personal aspirations ensuring they live their lives in the way they want to be remembered for.
