Learning, Support and why inspirational people tend never to be ‘Islands’
I believe that in life you never stop learning.
You see I think that true professionals never stop trying to understand more, navigate a changing environment and look at alternatives as a way to support your clients.
However for me learning often isn’t always a linear process. It isn’t just about improving your knowledge and skills.
You might be different but learning for me is also about spotting trends…particularly in individuals you might be inspired to emulate.
There’s plenty of people who inspire me.
From leaders in their particular professional field to a wide range of artists, musicians, authors, playrights and anyone who has the drive and ability to create something out of nothing.
From parents who always find time for their children despite knowing how difficult that balance often is to individuals who struggle with adverse personal and health circumstances but still believe that anything is possible and challenge societies perceptions on what can be achieved.
Often finding trends in such a diverse range of inspirational people is difficult to achieve.
However from the people who inspire me I’ve realised one important thing…
They never do it alone.
You see many of the people I admire have taken time to realise they need help. Often they’ve been introspective enough to recognise what they’re really good at and spend more time focusing on this while building a team around them which can support them in areas of their life and business which they might not be particularly good at
However all of that support comes from one place…
You need to recognise you might benefit from help.
You see you might have the ability and skills to work alone.
However like a writer needs a good editor, often musicians need a band (or at the very least work with a producer), business people work with great teams around them supporting them to achieve their aspirations (I certainly would be lost without the great people I get to work with!)…
We work better when we focus our efforts on what we’re truly good at and work in collaboration with other people to support us in other elements of our lives.
It’s interesting…
Our clients are typically smart people with busy lives.
Often they’re entirely capable of learning how to manage their own wealth independently of working with a financial planner if they (and here’s the kicker) was prepared to the time, effort and energy to do so.
However the reality is that most of our clients understand the benefit of working with professionals who support individuals achieve their financial goals day in day out.
Then they can choose to spend an asset more finite than money…Time!
Interestingly there are a bunch of other benefits with working with a professional financial planner.
In face our clients tell us that having us ‘asking challenging questions’, ‘enable us to worry less’ and ‘keep me on track’ are all things a professional financial planner should help you with.
The fact that ‘no man (or woman) is an island’ isn’t a new concept…it was originally written about in the 16th century (by a fella named John Doone).
However in modern times asking for help and understanding that by building a team around you to support you with what you want to achieve is as important now as it was then.
What do you think? Also, share with us who inspires you and why?
