What does true wealth mean to you?
The majority of my working hours are spent helping people work out what financial independence means to them and, with my amazing team at Cervello, building plans to help them get there. Then it’s about consistently and constantly reviewing these plans to make sure my clients remain on track.
However, let’s be honest, true wealth isn’t just about money. Having enough money is definitely a hygiene factor and there’s no denying that not having enough creates a wide range of challenges.
But if you’re lucky enough to be in a situation where you’re financially independent, then the next step is to look at some of the other potential areas which might improve your wellbeing and live a happier, healthier and more well rounded life.
Now, what true wealth is for you might be different to me, and the idea of this blog is to consider some of these factors.
Health and Well-being: True wealth for me definitely includes being physical and mentally healthy. It is the ability to enjoy good health, have vitality, and experience a sense of inner peace and contentment.
Relationships and Connections: I don’t know many people who wouldn’t put their most treasured relationships as part of what they consider is true wealth. However like all of these areas, ensuring that these relationships are nurtured to ensure they’re as healthy as they can be can take time.
Personal Growth and Development: I know that, for me, continuous personal growth, learning, and self-improvement contribute to true wealth. This involves expanding knowledge, skills, and abilities, and pursuing personal goals and aspirations.
Purpose and Meaning: I’d suggest that true wealth lies in having a sense of purpose and meaning in life. It involves aligning one’s actions and values with a greater purpose, contributing to something beyond oneself, and experiencing a sense of fulfillment and impact.
Time Freedom: Having control over one’s time and the freedom to pursue activities and experiences that bring joy and fulfillment is a form of true wealth. This involves striking a balance between work, leisure, and personal priorities.
Experiences and Memories: Accumulating enriching experiences, creating lasting memories, and enjoying life’s adventures are elements of true wealth. It involves cherishing moments, embracing new opportunities, and savoring the journey.
Contribution and Generosity: I’d also suggest that True wealth includes giving back to others and making a positive impact in the world. It involves acts of kindness, philanthropy, and contributing to the well-being of others and the greater community.
The reality is that we’re all doing well in some of these areas and other which need a bit of improvement. There’s no such thing as the perfect balance.
However, remaining conscious of this, and working hard to make sure we’re focussed on the areas which might need a bit more effort.
So, what areas of ‘true wealth’ are you really strong in currently, and what areas might need a bit more work. I’d love to know your thoughts?!
