The hidden gem behind the Olympic park I’d recommend you check out

Our family loves the Olympic Park. As proud East Londoners seeing what the Olympics bought in terms of regeneration of that part of London has been amazing.

A walk or cycle around the Olympic Park will certainly entertain for a while, with the additional advantage of having access to some great live sport.

Clearly a visit to the London stadium to see the mighty Hammers (other football clubs are available, apparently!)  is one option, but one often underrated option is seeing the London Lions play Basketball at the Copper Box, which for my youngest Sophie and I was a really entertaining afternoon out.

The other advantage is the option to participate in sport using the Olympic facilities. As you might know I’m spending a decent amount of time on my bike at the minute training for Ride London and the ability to use the road bike track at the Velodrome to train has been brilliant.

However, having spoken to many people about this, A lot of people don’t know about one of the best things to do ‘behind’ the Olympic park.

There’s an 8 mile walk you can complete which takes you all the way up to Europe’s largest urban wetland reserve (Walthamstow Wetlands) and plenty of lovely Canalside pubs and café’s along the route.

It’s also got some amazing street art along the way, with the art under some of the canalside bridges making a stop and stare every now and again definitely worth doing.

It’s just over 8 miles from the Olympic park to the Wetlands, but if you don’t fancy or haven’t got time for a 16 mile trip, there’s plenty of opportunities to rent a bike and cycle along the waterway…an experience Sophie and I really enjoyed the last time we were there.

If you do get the chance to check this out, let me know, however I’m curious, what’s your favourite London walk that nobody seems to know about?
