The one simple thing you can do to improve you and your friends social wellbeing
This week I’ve been writing a lot about Social Wellbeing for the What Happens Next book, which I’m expecting to be published in early 2025 (You can join the Waiting list for the book here! – https://whathappensnext.life/the-what-happens-next-book/)
I’ve also been doing something a lot this week which has been improving my social wellbeing. It’s an act so simple it’s power is often ignored. I’ve been checking in.
If I’m being perfectly frank, there’s been periods of my life where I haven’t been a good friend. I loved seeing my friends when I saw them, but weeks and months go by without me connecting with people I liked.
Then, over the past couple of years I learned from a mate of mine the simple power of the check in. He’d just send me a quick message every few days asking how I was doing. I love a simple but effective idea so I copied the idea and started checking in regularly on my friends too. Nothing too elaborate, but a simple ‘how are you doing?’ every few days really helped both me and them maintain a connection, and improve our social wellbeing!
So, let me ask you a question…
When was the last time you ‘checked in’ with your friends?
If it’s been more than a week simply sending them a quick message, or even better giving them a quick call to see how they’re doing might be the thing you need to make you slightly happier and them too.
If you do this, and it reaps rewards for both of you, I’d love to know!
So today I’m curious…how often do you check in with your friends? What positive outcomes have you had simply by checking in on a regular basis?
