Running, Mountains and Dancing

Earlier in the year I was persuaded to take part in a ‘run’ in aid of Richard House.  Initially the  ‘run’ looked relatively straightforward.  Fifteen Kilometeres, Greenwich park, on a Fresh March morning.  I thought it would be great fun as Greenwich is one of our greatest London parks and a 15k run on a Sunday morning sounded like a fun but challenging way to start the day.

However as the event approached and I received the ‘race pack’, I realised that this run may not have been as straightforward as I initially assumed.

Firstly the event was called the “Greenwich 15k Tough”.  “Sorry…did you say Tough?!”  I thought “No one told me about that when I signed up!”

Secondly, the race pack contained a map of the route.  If you know London you’ll know Greenwich park is famous for being the home of ‘the meridian line’ and the Royal Observatory.  Both of which are on the top of a huge great hill.  Actually, calling it a hill is probably a bit of an understatement, it’s more of a mini mountain!  The route for the run involved running up this hill 3 times!

However, I was determined to do it and determined to finish and for one main reason.  As you may know I’m a big supporter of Richard House Children’s Hospice.  The work they do, day in and day out to provide care and support to life-limited children, children with complex healthcare conditions and their families.

I’m lucky enough to have 2 happy and healthy children and therefore the least I can do to support the children and families Richard House work with is to run up a hill 3 times!  So I took the challenge and finished the run.  Very slowly….but I finished!

I haven’t decided what I’m doing next for Richard House but I’m tempted to get involved in the Hellrunner race coming up in November.  However I promised the guys at Richard House I’d mention one other event that’s coming up….

On the 28th of November (and on Thursday the 13th December), Richard house are running an amateur ‘come dancing’ event called “Take to the Floor”.  So, if you like to dance (or can’t and would like to learn) and want to raise money for a great cause, why not read more about the event here.
