In my last article I mentioned that there are two prominent and important changes in the world of money you might need to be aware of.

However the next change isn’t a new set of rules but the fact that there is a change in the pace of how existing rules are being implemented.

I of course talk about the regulation surrounding auto enrolment, which was enshrined in law in 2008 and started to impact large employers in 2012 (and ‘medium sized’ employers in 2013 & 2014).

However in 2015 & 2016 auto enrolment is changing massively!

However whilst large and medium sized employers have many staff the reality is that when you look at the UK employment picture it tells an interesting story….

At the start of 2014 there were an estimated 5.2 million business in the UK.

“Small firms” accounted for 99.3% of all private sector businesses and employed just over 15 million people.

So, when it comes to the modern employment picture we’re not as Napoleon explained it “a nation of shopkeepers” but actually….

A nation jam packed full of small businesses!

However when it comes to auto enrolment this generates a challenge as most SME employers need to comply in the next two and a bit years.

So, auto enrolment isn’t new news.

But for the first time in the next couple of years it’s starting to hit hundereds of thousands of employers.

Whilst some of these businesses will take action to do it themselves, many will choose to take one of the two alternative options…
