After a sporting summer full of ups, downs and exciting moments there was one event which for me showed the inspirational power of sport.
This inspiration didn’t come from someone who became a champion.
This inspiration didn’t come from someone from the Olympics in Rio or the European championship all over France.
It came in mid-September from humid Mexico.
Johnny Brownlee turns the final corner of the final race of the season.
As he turns the corner a pained expression crosses his face. His legs start to go from under him and someone holds him before he collapses on the ground.
Suddenly Alistair Brownlee turns the corner and sees his brother struggling.
Without hesitation, and despite the fact that he sacrifices winning the race to do so, he knows instantly what needs to be done.
Alistair puts his arm under Johnny and runs with him to the finish line helping his tired and dehydrated brother to the finish line…although it did mean that neither brother came first.
I loved this one moment in sport…
This one moment in sport where positivity reigned, camaraderie triumphed and brotherly love won.
This one moment in sport where the right thing to do was not to just beat but actually to support your fellow man.
This one moment in sport which I believe is something to aspire to…
You see whilst it seems there is so much fighting in the world I believe that more is achieved when people can get along and work together.
