Low-cost experiments you can try this month

Here are seven “What Happens Next” style experiments simple, cheap, and designed to create data about what fits you.

  1. The 4-Week Creative Sampler
Week 1: drawing. Week 2: writing. Week 3: music. Week 4: photography.
At the end, rate each out of 10 for enjoyment and wanting to do it again
  1. The “Bad Art” Challenge
    Make something deliberatelydays.
This is exposure therapy for perfectionism.
  1. The “Memory Lane” Project
Write three true stories from your life:
  • a turning point
  • a person who changed you
  • a moment you still think about
You’re not writing for publication. You’re writing to remember.
  1. The One-Class Rule
Don’t overthink. Book one beginner session (pottery, choir, life drawing, creative writing).
Your only job is to show up once.
  1. Creative + Movement stacking
Take a short walk and take 10 photos of anything that feels “interesting.”
This combines physical wellbeing with creative attention.
  1. The “Make Something for Someone” experiment
Cook, paint, write, compose, photograph—create a small gift.
This blends creativity with kindness/community energy.
  1. The Date-Night Swap
Do what we did: replace “dinner and drinks” with “make something together.”
You might not create great art. But you will create a memory.
